You could even see Fort Sumter from the top of Fort Moultrie |
After touring the Fort we took a walk down to the beach and look at the beautiful coastlines that South Carolina has to offer.
As well as a little nature. :)
The Fort also had a small museum in a building across the street. It had great memorabilia from the Civil War. They also had a new section on the Slavery that I thought was very well done. (Unfortunately none of my photos turned out too well from that exhibit.)
From Fort Moultrie we decided to go somewhere new (to us) and went to The Magnolia Cemetery. I don't know about everyone else, but I absolutely love going to cemeteries. I think its because I feel a peace there and the fact that I am such a history buff that I love going to really old cemeteries and seeing the elaborate and not so elaborate markers people made back then.
Speaking of Elaborate...while driving through the cemetery we came across a mausoleum in the shape of a Pyramid. A Pyramid! It seemed so out of place and cool at the same time. Haha.

I love how in the back it had a Stain Glass window. |
We also found that the soldiers who died in the sinking of the Hunley Submarine were buried here:
One other Gem we found while driving through here was the Confederate Soldiers Memorial. I thought it was cool how the local Daughters of Confederate Soldiers group had paid to have the Soldiers from Charleston that died in Gettysburg, moved from that cemetery to here.
Here are some photos of other unique cemetery plots:

I thought it was sweet how they had made the marker a basinet for the child. |
This was actually at the entrance to another cemetery that was next to the Magnolia Cemetery, but it was too cool not to share.
The next day we made a trek down to Folly Beach (just south of Charleston) and walked out as far as we could to see the Morris Island Lighthouse. We were not able to get to the Lighthouse itself as the land around it has eroded away over the years, but it was still worth the walk out there to see a glimpse of it from the coast.
There were people fishing, swimming, sun bathing etc all around the area where you can see the light house and that was such a neat luxury to me. To have that view while enjoying the beach.
It was a wonderful trip as always and can't wait to go back again! And with that I will leave you with one piece of wisdom I live by every day.
